The SAT (previously known as Scholastic Aptitude Test and Scholastic Assessment Test) is a standardized test used by most of the US colleges and universities. By assessing your school grades along with SAT score, you will be considered as a potential student for college admissions by College Board ETS (Educational Testing Service). SAT is designed to measure a student’s ability to understand and process elements in subjects like reading, writing, and math.
SAT format has been changed from March 2016 onwards, back to 1600-point format. The new SAT will be a 3 hour 50 minute exam (including an optional essay which takes 50 minutes), consisting of five sections: Reading, Writing, Math (with calculator), Math (no calculator), and Essay (optional). Test will be offered for the first time on both paper and computer as part of revisions intended to improve college accessibility for low-income students. There will be only 4 answer choices instead of 5, and no negative marking for an incorrect answer.
Some of the highlights of New SAT Test:
- Questions will require multiple steps to get an answer.
- The reading passages will include complex structure and vocabulary.
- Foundational math skills will be more important.
- Reasoning and critical thinking skills will be paramount.
- There will be fewer sections on the new test, but they will be longer in time than the current test.
New SAT Test is going to be more complex and better preparation will be required to clear SAT.
